Adam Fischer is a strong supporter of human rights. The Principal Conductor of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker has initiated a Human Rights Prize to be awarded annually by the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf at a special Human Rights Concert. „Médecins sans Frontières" received the first award in 2016.

This year, Adam Fischer has chosen the community and the people of Lesbos to win the Human Rights Award honouring them for their humane and courageous work for refugees.

Stavros Myrogiannis, director of the refugee camp „Cara Tepe“, received the prize at a ceremony preceding the Human Rights concert on April 23, in which Adam Fischer and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker performed Beethoven´s  9th Symphony.

„Kara Tepe is a sign of hope in Europe with its increasingly negative attitude against people who have to leave their homes because of war, hunger and religious or political repression“ said Adam Fischer.
